Mary Stroud (1868-1943)
John T. Prather (1861-1933)
John Prather and both his parents were born in Indiana. They moved to Tennessee in 1875 and his mother died there. He and his father went to Kansas and then in July, 1889, into Oklahoma, staking a claim 2.5 miles east of El Reno, where they lived for five years.
Mary Stroud successfully homesteaded (in her own right) the NW4 of section 26, Township 14N, 8W. Filed on May 9, 1892, giving residence as Harper, Kansas. Received title July 13, 1901. She sold it as soon as she had the patent.
They were married 8 Sep 1894 in Canadian County, OK. They adopted a daughter Mabel, who is shown with them in the 1900 census.
The Prathers were living in Cement Township in 1900 and in Union Township in 1910 (south of El Reno). In 1920 they were at 221 K Street, El Reno.
