OBITUARY NOTICES: The East Liverpool Evening Review for Friday, December 21, 1906: "Ferdinand Oschmann, one of the best known residents of East Liverpool, died at 7 o'clock this morning at his home on Grant Street. He had been ill for just one week and died from a complication of diseases. The funeral arrangements had not been made today, but the services will likely be set for Sunday afternoon and the local lodge of the Elks will have charge. Mr. Oschmann was born at Kiauten, Germany, October 11, 1845, and came to the United States in 1871. He first located in Pittsburgh, PA, where he was in business until 17 years ago when he came to East Liverpool. Until recently he was a wholesale dealer in beer and the last position he held was that of steward at the lodge room of East Liverpool Aerie No. 457, Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was attending to his duties at the hall last Friday night when he became suddenly sick and his brother Eagles assisted him to his home. He seemed to be suffering from a terrible cold, which together with asthma, with which he had been troubled for years, made him a very sick man. Drs. W. E. Mowen, G. P. Ikirt, and J. Howard Davis attended him and did all that was possible to give him relief, but all gave up hope yesterday and death this morning was not unexpected. The friends of Mr. Oschmann were numberless. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and was generous to a fault. He was a kind father and husband and the family is heartbroken. Mr. Oschmann was a charter member of the Eagles, a member of the Elks, German Beneficial Union, and a prominent member of the Turners. He always gave considerable time and attention to the lodges named and was a worthy member of each. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Fred G. Oschmann of Wellsville, OH; Edward J. Oschmann of Brooklyn, NY; William O. Oschmann of Pittsburgh, PA; Helen M. Oschmann, at home; Carl F. Oschmann, at home; and Mrs. John T. Mountford of East Liverpool, OH. Saturday, December 22, 1906: " The Oschmann Funeral. The funeral of the late Ferdinand Oschmann will take place tomorrow. Services will be held at the home on Grant Street at 2:30 PM, conducted by Rev. J. G. Reinartz, of the St. John's Lutheran Church, of which Mr. Oschmann was a member. The Elks and the Eagles will conduct services according to their rituals at the grave in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may view the remains this evening from 7 to 9 and also tomorrow morning." Monday, December 24, 1906: "The Oschmann Funeral. The funeral of the late Ferdinand Oschmann yesterday was attended by more than 200 Elks and Eagles and by a large number of other friends of the deceased. Floral tributes from various orders to which Mr. Oschmann belonged were elaborate and handsome. The Eagles band furnished music." | |
