Monte Hammer, 1897-1988
The Hammers' First Ford -- Yoakum, DeWitt County, Texas
Monte Hammer is recognizable in the center
of the photo.
I presume that his brother Alonzo (born in 1901) is
pretending to drive and the parents are in the back seat.
Monte served in the First World War. He
contracted TB and spent several years in the Veteran's
Hospital.
When he was able to resume a life on the outside, he
competed in archery and made all of the bows and arrows for
himself and Gladys.
He met Maynard Parker through their archery and became his
assistant in photography shoots.
