AvalonCon Errata

These errata were handed out at AvalonCon. According to Frank Hamrick, one of the gamemasters at AvalonCon,

The errata is the result of conversations I had with Mark Herman after playing PPW in the first AvalonCon. I called him after that first AvalonCon and we discussed these clarifications on the phone. The answers he gave to my questions are contained on the errata sheet. Mark was given a copy of the errata and used them at the second and third AvalonCons. Starting about the fourth AvalonCon, Kevin McCarthy and myself served as gamemasters and we used this errata each time. Thus, it carries the authority of the game designer and reflects his perception of the rules.

The handout also included the errata from the General Question Box; I have weeded those out here, since they appear on the other page.

Rule Change: If Sparta has successfully blocked the Euxine Sea supply to Athens, the Athenian player may ignore the Emergency Fund restrictions.

Clarification of Decelean War Scenario: 10.3.4 Special Rules. Game play does not begin with a Spartan Defensive Operation, as the rules imply. Rather, the Athenian and Spartan players have already taken their first operation, both players having moved to Syracuse. Thus, this scenario begins with an Athenian Auguries die roll and, if successful, their second operation.

Clarification of Fall of Athens Scenario: 10.4.3 Special Rules. This scenario assumes that both Sparta and Athens have already taken their first operation, Sparta sending Mindarus to Abydos, and Athens moving a Force to Abydos in response. Thus, the scenario actually begins with a Spartan Auguries die roll and, if successful, their second operation.

Q. If a No Battle occurs between two Armies in a city in rebellion, who goes home?
A. The Army to which the space is not currently friendly.

Q. Can a Force "under siege" intercept?
A. Yes. It is technically not under siege until the Siege markers are placed during the Siege Determination Segment of the Combat Phase.

Q. Can land forces leave a ship and continue?
A. No.

Q. Does the Spartan Home Guard assist in battles resulting from a successful interception of naval forces on the coast?
A. Yes.

Q. Can a Hoplite or Cavalry unit intercept a fleet which does not contain Hoplites or Cavalry?
A. Yes.

Q. A Force, in its home space, intercepts and a battle occurs. In the battle the Force occupying its home space must go home. Is it removed from the home space and placed in the Going Home box?
A. Yes.

Q. If an Athenian Army is in Sparta, can the Spartan leader leave Sparta in an attempt to assemble an Army and return to Sparta?
A. Yes. But the Spartan leader will face an interception attempt die roll the moment he activates and in each space to which he moves as long as he is in the ZOI/LOC of the Athenian occupying force, both leaving and returning to Sparta.

Map Considerations: Note that the navy has an LOC from Pegae to Siphae, and from Eretria to Carystos (even though the lines seem to be drawn over land).
